Location

Paris or remote (from GMT 0 up to GMT +2 to ensure sufficient overlap with the rest of the team) being open to periodical visits to our office.

Engineering Manager: Infrastructure & API 

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Infrastructure & API team, a core pillar of Morpho’s engineering organization. This team supports multiple internal products and powers a public-facing API that is becoming its own product, complete with strong SLA guarantees and the need for scalability, performance, and reliability to serve institutional-graded partnerships.
We want someone who leads and contributes technically, staying hands-on in design, architecture, and even some implementation work, especially during critical projects.
You’ll report directly to the Head of Engineering and co-founder (Julien) and work closely with product teams to ensure the infrastructure and APIs meet both internal demands and external, public-facing scale.

About the Team

The Infrastructure & API team comprises 5 engineers, including DevOps & backend engineers that provide the data warehouse for the different products, accessible through https://blue-api.morpho.org/graphql. Their work ensures internal teams can move fast without being blocked by backend limitations, while the public API upholds the highest availability, performance, and scalability standards, including SLA commitments.

Technical Skills

  • Backend & Infrastructure Expertise: Deep experience with scalable backend systems, robust APIs, and infrastructure supporting internal and external-facing institutional-graded products.

  • Public API Ownership: Familiarity with delivering externally exposed APIs that require SLA-backed guarantees, high uptime, and strong incident handling.

  • Tech Stack Strength: Strong experience with TypeScript (and optionally Rust), Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, and modern DevOps tooling.

  • Security & Resilience: You build secure, resilient systems without compromising agility.

  • Fintech & Web3 Appreciation: Experience working in fintech, Web3, or regulated environments is a substantial bonus.

Strategic & Product Thinking

  • Infrastructure as a Product: You see internal and external APIs as products, aligning technical decisions with business value, user needs, and product goals.

  • Long-Term Vision: You design systems and team processes that can scale sustainably with Morpho’s growth.

Job requirements

Must-have Experience & Skills

  • Leadership of backend engineering teams (5–6 engineers, including DevOps).

  • Hands-on experience scaling backend products and APIs.

  • Experience with public-facing APIs under strong SLA expectations.

  • Strong incident management and leadership under pressure.

  • Humble Leadership: You prioritize team success over personal ego.

  • Strong Communication: You explain complex technical topics clearly to both engineers and non-engineers.

  • Adaptability: You thrive in a dynamic, evolving start-up environment.

Recruitment Process

We operate mainly through warm introductions, no formal case studies. Instead, we prefer evaluating candidates based on their real capabilities (freelance, mentorship) and structured technical discussions.

Typical steps:

  • Warm intro and initial conversation.

  • Leadership & technical deep dive with the Hiring Manager.

  • Remunerated Freelancing or Mentorship on the scaling plan.

  • Internal discussions or references (if applicable).

The freelance mission will be:

Study the API and provide a plan to make it scalable and more resilient in terms of data accuracy & data availability => Compare with our current scaling plan => Apply the plan to scale.
