Job description

About Morpho

Morpho is a leading Decentralized Finance (DeFi) lending protocol that recently secured $50 million from Ribbit Capital, a16z crypto, Coinbase Ventures, Variant, Brevan Howard, Pantera, Blocktower, and 50 others to build an open lending network giving anyone, anywhere, access to the best possible terms. Morpho is experiencing explosive growth, with over $10 billion in deposits on the network, solidifying itself as the new standard for DeFi lending. Now, Morpho is scaling its team of contributors to establish itself as a cornerstone, not just of DeFi, but of a new internet-native financial system.

Our Mission

Morpho’s mission is to power human ambition with open access to capital. Human ambition has no borders, but the capital to fuel it does. Today’s financial system is closed and fragmented. No one sees all opportunities, most overpay, and some are excluded entirely. We believe capital should flow efficiently to where it’s needed most — giving anyone, anywhere, access to the best possible terms.

Location

Paris or remote (from -5h GMT up to +2h GMT to ensure sufficient overlap with the rest of the team).

How we work

We move fast on hard problems in a nascent market with no set playbook : navigating uncertainty is part of the job. You’ll be challenged: anyone can question work and decisions must be justified. We keep a high bar and match it with high support: we help each other unblock and share context openly, with low ego. More about our values: morpho.org/jobs.

Role

The mission of this role is to design, build, and scale Morpho’s full‑stack systems so teams can ship fast, reliably, and securely across products with billions in TVL. The role exists to turn complex requirements into simple, high‑performance software that unblocks product velocity and delivers real user value.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and own end‑to‑end delivery across web apps, APIs, and indexers to ship user‑visible impact quickly and safely.

  • Design a scalable API and SDK strategy with clear versioning and docs to enable hundreds of external integrators to build on Morpho.

  • Build high‑performance data pipelines over on‑chain events using intelligent caching and query optimization to keep UIs sub‑second.

  • Raise engineering standards by leading design reviews, mentoring 5–10 engineers, and improving testing, observability, and reliability.

  • Improve system performance and cost by profiling hotspots and introducing pragmatic architectural changes that reduce p95 latency.

  • Partner with product, protocol, and business leads to clarify scope, tradeoffs, and success metrics so the team ships the right thing, faster.

  • Own incident readiness with dashboards, alerts, and on‑call practices to keep critical paths healthy.

What Success Looks Like

  • In your first 30 days

    • Understand our architecture, deploy a meaningful improvement or feature end‑to‑end, and set up your local + CI workflows.

    • Build relationships with product, protocol, and data stakeholders. Identify quick wins on performance or developer experience.

  • By Month 4–6

    • Lead the delivery of a major initiative, improving API or UI reliability and reducing p95 latency through caching and query changes.

    • Establish clear standards for APIs, testing, and observability that other engineers adopt.

  • By Month 12

    • Own the technical architecture for a product vertical, with strong reliability and performance metrics.

    • Be a go‑to technical authority for full‑stack decisions, unlocking faster shipping across teams and helping close hard problems.

Job requirements

Must-have Skills

  • Adaptability in a fast‑changing context

    • Moves comfortably between frontend, backend, and data layers. Adjusts plans quickly when priorities or constraints shift.

  • Clear, crisp async communication

    • Writes short, actionable updates. Proposes options with tradeoffs. Defaults to transparency and documentation.

  • Ownership and autonomy

    • Spots gaps, proposes a plan, and drives to closure without hand‑holding. Holds the bar for quality while biasing to ship.

  • Team‑first mindset and low ego

    • Seeks the best idea, not credit. Mentors others and raises the overall engineering standard.

  • First‑principles reasoning and bias for action

    • Challenges assumptions, simplifies systems, and favors pragmatic solutions that deliver user value.

Must‑have experience

  • 8–10+ years building and operating full‑stack applications at scale, with measurable business impact.

  • Track record designing systems that handle millions of daily requests with high availability.

  • Experience leading cross‑team technical initiatives without formal authority.

  • Deep expertise with modern TypeScript across client and server.

  • Familiarity with our stack is a plus: React, Next.js, GraphQL (Apollo Server), REST, WebSockets, Node.js (Hono/NestJS), PostgreSQL, Redis, event streaming, indexers (Ponder/Subsquid), viem, Jest/Cypress, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Sentry, auth, rate limiting, and input validation.

Perks & benefits:

We design benefits around deep work and growth, so you can do the best work of your career. Expect fair, top-tier compensation, real flexibility, time together in Paris, great health coverage, and support to keep learning.

Equal opportunity

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and hire based on talent, potential, and values alignment.
